The Sleepwalkers By J. Gabriel Gates review -annmarie

The Sleepwalkers
Caleb life comes crashing around him when he gets a letter from his old best friend Christine begging for help. Caleb and his mate bean travel to the town Caleb once lived in only to find it’s taken a turn for the worse. Christine is locked up in the old mental institute. His dad has gone missing leaving his family home untouched. The children in the town are disappearing but no one will take about what going on. Will Caleb and bean find out what’s going on our will they vanish like everyone else.

I started to really enjoy this book from the first chapter Caleb is a interesting character with a past that haunts him. Bean says some of the funniest stuff but you can see that there is another side to him with both Caleb and bean together it makes a great team for this story.
I found this book to unfold like a big puzzle with each chapter you get a new piece of the puzzle. It’s exciting and at times scary there was some really weird and chilling stuff going on in this town and I found myself glued to the book needing to know what secrets were held within the pages.
All together this book was well written and the story itself was one of a kind different exciting and scary.  I would recommend this book to others and would happily reread this book.
A book that leaves a ticking in your ears and a chill down your spin.

Tyme's End by B.R. Collins guest reviewer Lucy D'Andrea

Tyme’s End by B.R. Collins

Title: Tyme’s End
Author: B.R. Collins
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing PLC
Format: Paperback
Publication Date: January 3, 2011
Overall: 4/5
Source: Received for guest review.
Synopsis (Source: Goodreads): Bibi feels out of place everywhere - everywhere that is, except for Tyme's End, the deserted house that she breaks into when she thinks nobody is nearby. There she unexpectedly meets Oliver Gardner, the owner of the house, who's just returned after ten years away. Their story and the story of Oliver's grandfather becomes inextricably entwined, linked as they are by Tyme's End itself. For Tyme's End is more than just a deserted house. It is a house that by turns can be romantic, beguiling, sinister and malevolent. It is a house that had a cruel and manipulative owner. And anybody who enters Tyme's End must prepare themselves for terror ...Part mystery, part psychological thriller, set in the present yet with forays into the past, this is a cleverly ambitious novel that makes for a compulsive and gripping read.

 My Review:

First off I would like to thank the lovely ladies here at Best Books for giving me the opportunity to guest review Tyme’s End by B.R. Collins! *SQUEE!* Thank you!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The story begins in Bibi’s narrative view in present time. After the death of her birth parents, Bibi feels alone, as though she doesn’t belong anywhere. She wants everything to go back to the way they were. After escaping the home she shares with her adoptive parents in a small village, Bibi finds herself at the steps of an abandoned mansion, Tyme’s End. Things change the instant she arrives at Tyme’s End mansion, where she soon runs into the mansion’s owner, Oliver. Bibi and Oliver feel drawn to one another, which sparks a passionate relationship developed between the two characters throughout this part in the novel. She must convince Oliver to keep the old mansion, as she finally feels there is somewhere she belongs…
Switching over to Oliver’s point of view in the earlier years, where readers are given a glimpse of Oliver and his grandfather’s relationship. The time comes where dark hidden secrets are revealed..
Finally the story unfolds to Oliver’s Grandfather’s point of view in the year 1936. This is where he discovers the truth about the mansion, where its evil came from, beginning with its scheming owner H.J. Martin, and the events leading up to his murder…
My favorite elements of Tyme’s End are the mysteries that are unraveled throughout the novel. I also enjoyed the story being split into three different parts, going backwards in time to reveal the events that have occurred in those specific time periods. I personally enjoyed the latter parts of the novel, in the point of view of both Oliver and his grandfather.
B.R. Collins has brilliantly captured the essence of mystery and suspense within Tyme’s End. The alternating narrators present unique voices that lure you in. Readers are taken through a wonderful journey to the discovery behind the evil that lies within Tyme’s End mansion.   I was definitely intrigued by the history surrounding Tyme’s End mansion.
Readers will be captivated by the many unraveled secrets that lie hidden within the words of Tyme’s End. I recommend Tyme’s End to those who enjoy Young Adult Fiction, with Mystery, Suspense and a little touch of Romance.
4/5 – An Enjoyable Read, Well Written, Recommended
Quest for the scorpion’s jewel by Amy Green
Quest for the scorpion’s jewel by Amy Green
Jesse has had a hard life living with his aunt and uncle. His life is spent doing whatever his uncle asks but that changes one night when a group of young warriors turn up at the door looking for a place to stay. Jesse is soon thrown into the adventure of his life after the poisoned leader asks him to join the youth guard.  On a mission for the king they soon find that danger hides around
every corner. Will Jesse and his new friends complete their mission or die trying.
The story of Jesse and the youth guard was exciting and interesting I felt like the words were jumping off the page at me. There was so much to love about this book from the crippled main character that was determined to prove himself, to the calm and collected silas. There was always something going on in the book and I found it so easy to be sucked into this simply amazing world.
This book went straight into the story I found it an easy and exciting read. The characters were all different and very likeable. The story setting was imaginative and creative and I loved following the characters through this wonderful world.
I would say that both younger and older readers would enjoy this book and I would happily recommend this book to others.
The Kissing Hand By Audrey Penn, review -annmarie
The Kissing Hand By Audrey Penn
Chester Raccoon does not want to go to school. His mother helps Chester by showing him with the kissing hand that no matter where he is his mother and love is always with him.
I read this story to my 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son. They both loved the story and like me to kiss their hands to go alone with the story.
I felt this story helps its younger readers understand that while school sometimes seems like a scary place your loved ones are always with you. It was a beautiful way of helping children understand real things that are going on in there lives. The story is told in such a way that it’s fun and informative the pictures are clear and kids loved to look at them and most of all it helps with children’s problems.
A beautiful kids book that helps young readers understand their fears in life.
Entangled by Cat Clarke-guest review-Stephanie Ager
Entangled
by Cat Clarke
Entangled is a story about 17 year old Grace, on the day that she is planning on committing suicide she meets a strange boy at the park. She then wakes up in a white room, with pen and paper writing down all the past events that she tries to forget.
At first impressions Grace is a girl that has a few problems and issues with her life. I must admit that I didn’t really take to Grace but then I got to know her and she grew on me. This girl doesn’t have it easy at all, and the minute she feels like things are falling into place the rug is quickly pulled out from under her feet. She craves the attention that a 17 year old deserves and requires; family, love and stability but she doesn’t have these things and Grace is crying out. Grace really grew on me, at first she was a bit annoying but the reader soon realize why. Grace pours out her feelings, and the ending, just blew me away. We’re left on a cliff-hanger but one that satisfies the reader. We really see Grace grow and tell us what her life was like.
A good change in pace and writing style. A good read dealing with today’s economy and teenagers problems.
Flu by Wayne Simmons-Guest review-‎Pam Perkins Mandigo
Pam Perkins Mandigo
Flu by Wayne Simmons
282 pages
Back flap of book.
A Deadly strain of flu has mutated
two cops fight their way through an angry and frightened crowd to gain entry to an apartment block in Belfast. They have received reports of a fresh outbreak of the virus and are met with the bloodshot eyes of a six-year-old Lithuanian girl. She is in the final stages of infection and must be quarantined.
Out on the streets, Geri finds herself looking down the buisiness end of a ski-masked man's revolver. Nearby, hell-bent on self-preservation, the shorn-headed punk Lark peeks out the window of his terraced-house hideout. In neighbouring Finaghy, churchgoer Karen looks to the stoic and level-headed Pat for a paternal figure, seemingly oblivious to his chequered past as an IRA gunrunner. Meanwhile, what remains of the armed forces congregate in a run-down base twenty miles south of Belfast.
As the flu continues to mutate, another phenomenon rocks the very foundation of Belfast.... Infected bodies suddenly begin to rise. Scorned byan angry red sun, the callused brick and mortar of a devasted city plays host to a bitter and bloody struggle between the living and the dead.
Finding its humanity is Belfast's only hope.
My thoughts on Flu
Flu is an ok book. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. The cover will suck you right in if you love Zombie books. For me the book just didn't live up to what I had hoped it would be. It tries to follow to many characters for a short book. Geri one of the women left alive is the best character out of them all. Flu doesn't really have a lot to do with Zombies. They are kind of like background noise. It is more about the characters past lives before the flu and their hunt for food. It starts out about how the Flu started then jumps to months later. I feel if the author had mentioned more about what happened when the flu started and more about the zombies the book would have been better. The ending still leaves you wondering what happens to the zombie filled world. If you’re looking for a book on zombies this isn’t really it. This is more about survival than that.
3 out of 5 stars for Flu
Darkness Falling: The Forever Twilight Series By Peter Crowther-review-annmarie
(for adult readers!)
Darkness Falling: The Forever Twilight Series
In a blink of an eye and a bright flash of light most the human population is gone. When the second flash comes everyone is back but there not the people they used to be.  What well the few remaining people do to stay alive.
I found it a bit hard to get into at first but I stuck with the book and soon found that it was interesting and very different.  There was a lot going on in the book and it changed from one group of character to the next.  I liked the writing style and most of all I really enjoyed the book as a whole. I would say that horror and science fiction fan well really get into this story.  There was lots of twists and turns in the book and the biggest surprise for me was the cars. I would happily read the next book.
I would happily recommend the book to others and I would read the book again.
A spin chilling read that left you wanting more.
Annmarie favorite Quotes
After reading so many books you sometimes notice that some quotes stay with you. This is my list of Quotes that are unforgettable.
Darkest power series by Kelley Armstrong
This series had some of my favorite and funniest Quotes ever.
"Derek caught my arm again as I started to move--at this rate, it was going to be as sore as my injured one.
"Dog," he said, jerking his chin toward the fenced yard. "It was inside earlier."
Expecting to see a Doberman slavering at the fence, I followed his gaze to a little puff of white fur, the kind of dog women stick in their purses. It wasn't even barking, just staring at us, dancing in place.
"Oh, my God! It's a killer Pomeranian." I glanced up at Derek. "It's a tough call, but I think you can take him."
— Kelley Armstrong (The Awakening)
"He pivoted, gaze following me as I crossed to the shower and turned on the cold water, so it would drown out our conversation without steaming up the room.
Great," he muttered."Now they're going to think we're showering together. Maybe we can just tell them we were washing off the crawl space dirt and trying to conserve water."
— Kelley Armstrong (The Summoning)
"He had a newspaper rolled in his hand, bearing down on me like a puppy that had piddled on the carpet.
"Bad Chloe,” I muttered.
"What?”
I’d forgotten his bionic hearing. “Bad Chloe.” I gestured at the rolled-up paper and put
out my hand. “Get it over with."
— Kelley Armstrong (The Awakening)
"So," Simon said. "Looks like you and Derek are getting along again. What happened? Did he give you the look?"
"Look?"
"You know. The one that makes him look like a whipped puppy, and makes you feel like a jerk for doing the whipping."
"Ah, that one. So it works on you, too?"
He snorted. "It even works on Dad. We give in, we tell him it's okay, and the next thing you know, he's chewing up slippers again."
I laughed."
— Kelley Armstrong (The Reckoning)
Ashfall by Mike Mullin
i have only just read this book (review will come later) but some of the Quotes in this book were wicked.
"I felt bad about dirtying their comforter with my nasty clothes, but who knew what might happen later. If something else bizarre went down and I had to run, I sure didn’t want to do it butt naked."
— Mike Mullin (Ashfall)
"But unlike thunder, this didn’t stop. It went on and on, machine-gun style, as if Zeus had loaded his bolts into an M60 with an inexhaustible ammo crate."
— Mike Mullin (Ashfall)
"That whiff of smoke was enough to transform my sithere-trembling terror into get-the-hell-out-of-here terror."
— Mike Mullin (Ashfall)
"I used to think that teachers who gave homework on weekends should be forced to grade papers for an eternity in hell."
— Mike Mullin (Ashfall)
The mortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare
The characters in this series mad me laugh all the time Jace said the funniest things
"Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'
Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."
"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
"Is this the part where you start tearing off strips of your shirt to bind my wounds?"
"If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
"Don't touch any of my weapons without my permission."
"Well, there goes my plan for selling them all on eBay," Clary muttered.
"Selling them on what?"
Clary smiled blandly at him. "A mythical place of great magical power."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
"Do you remember back at the hotel when you promised that if we lived, you’d get dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and give me a sponge bath?" asked Jace.
"It was Simon who promised you the sponge bath."
"As soon as I’m back on my feet, handsome," said Simon.
"I knew we should have left you a rat."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
"Well, I’m not kissing the mundane," said Jace. "I’d rather stay down here and rot."
"Forever?" said Simon. "Forever’s an awfully long time."
Jace raised his eyebrows. "I knew it," he said. "You want to kiss me, don’t you?"
— Cassandra Clare (City of Ashes)
"Is this the part where you say if I hurt her, you'll kill me?"
"No" Simon said, "If you hurt Clary she's quite capable of killing you herself. Possibly with a variety of weapons."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Glass)
"Can I help you with something?"
Clary turned instant traitor against her gender. "Those girls on the other side of the car are staring at you."
Jace assumed an air of mellow gratification. "Of course they are," he said, "I am stunningly attractive."
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
The morganville vampire series by Rachel Caine
This is one of my favorite series ever. There is so much to like about it and im always waiting for the next book to come out.
"Damn, Claire. Warn a guy before you do a face-plant on the floor next time. I could have looked all heroic and caught you or something -Shane"
— Rachel Caine (Glass Houses)
"Scoot over, man. I don't like you that much."
Dick. That's not what you said last night."
Bite me."
— Rachel Caine (Glass Houses)
"But that quickly faded, and he frowned. "You're bleeding," he said. "What happened?"
Claire sighed and held up her wrist to show him the bandage. "Man, you would be so embarrassed if I said it was something else." Michael looked blank. "I'm a girl, Michael, it could have been all natural, you know. Tampons?"
— Rachel Caine (Midnight Alley)
"Claire stretched out against the wall and kissed it. "Glad to see you, too," she whispered, and pressed her cheek against the smooth surface. It almost felt like it hugged her back.
"Dude, it's a house," Shane said from behind her. "Hug somebody who cares."
— Rachel Caine (Lord of Misrule)
"Better be," Eve said. She mock-bit at his finger. "I could totally date somebody else, you know."
"And I could rent out your room."
"And I could put your game console on eBay."
"Hey," Shane protested. "Now you're just being mean."
— Rachel Caine (Lord of Misrule)
"You're still here. No beer. I'm not corrupting a minor."
But YOU'RE a minor," she pointed out. "At least for beer."
Yeah, and by the way, how much does it suck that I'm an adult if I kill somebody, and I'm not if I want a beer?"
— Rachel Caine (Glass Houses)
"Eve: She told me last!
Shane: Boyfriend!
Michael: Landlord!
Eve: Crap. Right. Next time you sell your soul to the devil, I get first contact!"
— Rachel Caine (Midnight Alley)
"No, not you two. Stay here."
"Does he just not get how unfair and sexist that is?" Eve asked. "Men."
"You really want to go first?"
"Of course no. But I'd like the chance to refuse to go first."
— Rachel Caine (Lord of Misrule)
"What about Myrnin?"
Eve swallowed, almost choked, and Michael patted her kindly on the back. She beamed at him. "Myrnin? Oh yeah. He did a Batman and took off into the night. What is with that guy, Claire? If he was a superhero, he'd be Bipolar Man."
— Rachel Caine
"Bishop was all done with the witty converstaion. "Will you swear?"
And Myrnin said, shockingly, "I will." And he proceeded to, a string of swearwords that made Claire blink. He ended with, "--frothy fool-born apple-john! Cheater of vandals and defiler of dead dogs!" and did another twirl and bow. He looked up with a red, red grin that was more like a leer. "Is that what you meant, my lord?"
— Rachel Caine (Feast of Fools)
"I'll do it!"
"No, you won't," Shane and Michael said, at virtually the same time. Shane continued. "You're barely on your feet, Claire. You don't go anywhere, not without me."
"And me," Michael said.
"Hell," Eve sighed. "I guess that means I have to go, too. Which I may not ever forgive you for, even if I don't die horribly."
— Rachel Caine (Lord of Misrule)
chronicles of nick by Sherrilyn kenyon
— Sherrilyn Kenyon (Infinity)
— Sherrilyn Kenyon (Infinity)
"Not half as much as I’d miss me if you killed me. (He blinked like a girl and leaned against Ash’s shoulder.) Please don’t hurt me, Ash. Please. I don’t want to die while I’m still a virgin. At least let me get laid before you kill me – which according to my mom I can’t do until I’m married and I can’t do that until I finish college. So you have to wait a good ten years before you snuff me. Deal? (Nick)"
— Sherrilyn Kenyon (Infinity)
"Without a word or hesitation, Pain took the mop from Nick. Suffering moved to pick up glass.
They lied.
The only thing Nick Gautier could see flashing was Kyrian Hunter's vampire fangs."
