Kevin John Grote books

 Skye by Kevin Grote
THE RAVENS CIRCLE. EIGHTY TWO YEARS OF FRAGILE PEACE HANG IN THE BALANCE. TWO BOYS ARE MURDERED. THE MACKELLAN HERD IS GONE. THE TRAIL LEADS NORTH. FOR JAMIE FAWKES AND HIS KINSMEN TO FOLLOW AFTER WILL INVITE A RETURN TO THE SEVEN HUNDRED YEARS OF WAR. On the Isle of Skye, Highland clans battle for supremacy, the scales tilting back and forth between the powerful MacDonald’s and their rival, the MacLeod’s. The ravens are hungry. Death to the last man.

Tyburn by Kevin Grote After dark in 18th Century England, it a dangerous time. Honest folk avoid the roads at night, and lock themselves in as the sun goes down. Both in the countryside and the great cities. Strangers are feared and avoided. Predators roam unstopped. Only the most desparate or well-armed venture out at night. Footpads, highwaymen, thugs of every shape and size, patrol the roads and streets. Lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on any unsuspecting victim. Lawlessness is rampant. The abuse of low-priced Gin plagues the lower classes, adding more misery to those least able to afford it. Those addicted are turning to crime in desperation. There is no organized police force.

Possess by Gretchen McNeil review- annmarie

I have wanted to read this book from the very first time I saw it, and I was not disappointed.
The book follows the story of Bridget Liu, who life seems to have been taking a really weird turn since her father murder. She can talk to demons who linger in-house or take over the bodies of the living. She is spending most of her time with a priest who is showing her how to control her so called gift but things are starting to take weird turns when more and more demons seem to be showing up. Bridget needs to find out what really going on and were her gift really comes from.

The book is full of action and lots of scares and excitement. I loved what Bridget could do it was different and made for a really wicked book that never had a boring moment. There was such life in the book so amazing moments that really did stick into your mind. After reading this book you start to wonder what’s that noise I hear did that shadow just move the book really does stick with you, in a dramatic way.

While this book was more of a young adult light horror and as a big fan of horror’s I really like the twists that locked you into this book. There was just so much jammed into the book with demon’s right’ around every corner and the phantom cat that walks the halls at the dead of night making noises, after this you’re going to have to sleep with the light on.

Kill all enemies by Melvin Burgess review -annmarie

Kill all enemies by Melvin Burgess

3 kids that are going through a hellish life from being unwanted, unloved and just plain abused a mind blowing mix of highs and lows.

This book gripped my heart from the very beginning I don’t normal get over emotional with the books I’m reading but as person that knows firsthand what an abused childhood life is like this book pulled at my heart. I felt for the kids in a way I have never felt for any characters in a book before.

These three kids all go though their own hell whether it is by the hands of other people’s neglect or simply struggling at school or at home. The book is mixed with so much emotion and anger, kids that are scared to speak up and let others in. Kid’s needing love and help but only getting dead ends and confusion. This story that really shows what some kids have to go though.

Billie, Rob and Chris are seen as trouble makers and out casts but really they are all just calling out for help.

The author has written something so real and heartfelt with so much emotion. The characters were so right they really spoke to the reader and each character called to you in a different way. It was all well written and you felt like the characters were in the room with you.

I cried so hard while reading this book all I wanted was for Billie, Rob and Chris to find that light at the end of the tunnel.  There was more real life emotions in this book then I have ever read before, the book will get into your heart  you will cry you will laugh but most of all you will understand life is sometimes too hard for children.

I give this book a massive 5 stars a brilliant book that you have to read.
My last thought: sometimes the monsters can be the ones we trust.

Guest post for Adrianne Ambrose’s Fangs for Nothing

Hello!
I always find it reasonably awkward to talk about myself, so by way of introduction I’m going to jump to the third person for a moment and post what Belle Bridge Books has listed on their website in the “about the author” section.
“Adrianne Ambrose comes from a family of antique dealers and professional knife sharpeners. She's a native of Cleveland, Ohio (love) and currently resides in San Francisco (like) with her husband (love). When not writing novels about cheerleaders, barbarians or vampires, she's being nominated for video game awards starring dangerous high school girls. Adrianne contributes to the Fraggle Rock comic book series and is working on two graphic novels, both coming out in 2012 with Oni Press.
Cats have an unnatural fondness for Adrianne (sometimes unrequited) and her pet peeve is people who say wallah instead of voilà. When she isn't writing, she likes to visit Eastern European countries littered with giant, crumbling monuments of Lenin or remote island nations dotted with giant heads carved out of stone.”

Okay, now that’s out of the way and I can tell you more about my vampire comedy, Fangs for Nothing. Here’s what the book blurb has to say:
Grab some garlic and start sharpening your mother's wooden spoons because there are vampires living in the most unlikely of places.

I’ve always wanted to meet a vampire. Not to stake some poor bloodsucker as he sleeps in his coffin or have some sexy vampiress bite me on the neck, but just to see a creature so rare and infamous. What can I say? Some people want to sail to Easter Island, others want to fling themselves out of an airplane, I want to shake hands with a vampire. Well, maybe I should prioritize getting a girlfriend first, but a vampire sighting is pretty high up on the list. Trust me, a lot of kids my age dream about it. Like my two best friends, Rini and Xander. We spent half the summer searching the most notorious cities in the United States for the undead, but so far, no luck.

That’s why it came as a total shock to discover a living, breathing vampire in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. (Okay, so he’s more undead and not breathing, but you get the picture.) At first we were kind of excited, but then pretty freaked because it turns out our new fanged friend has a hold on the city's teenage population and a specific thirst for their blood. Which, in a word—bites.

Fangs is written from the male perspective, which I’ve been told is a nice change of pace for vampire books. There’s romance and adventure and teenage insecurities and vampires all running around the streets of Cleveland, Ohio. The story unfolds through the eyes of Herbert Lehmur, aka Sherbie, as he and his friends get sucked into the world of vampires.

Fangs for Nothing is available for 99 cents on all ereaders.

Besides Fangs for Nothing, I’ve recently posted Confessions of a Virgin Sacrifice as a 99 cent ebook on all ereaders. It’s a fantasy parody with bronze brassieres, brooding barbarians, magic, monsters and mayhem.
I also have a few graphic novels coming out with Oni Press that I’m quite excited about, but unfortunately those won’t hit the shelves until 2012.

Thanks for letting me do a guest blog, Ann Marie.

Currently reading The Devil's Kiss (Billi SanGreal, #1) by Sarwat Chadda

As the youngest and only female member of the Knights Templar, Bilquis SanGreal grew up knowing she wasn't normal. Instead of hanging out at the mall or going on dates, she spends her time training as a soldier in her order's ancient battle against the Unholy.

Billi's cloistered life is blasted apart when her childhood friend, Kay, returns from Jerusalem, gorgeous and with a dangerous chip on his shoulder. He's ready to reclaim his place in Billi's life, but she's met someone new: amber-eyed Michael, who seems to understand her like no one else, effortlessly claiming a stake in her heart.

But the Templars are called to duty before Billi can enjoy the pleasant new twist to her life. One of the order's ancient enemies has resurfaced, searching for a treasure that the Templars have protected for hundreds of years -- a cursed mirror powerful enough to kill all of London's firstborn. To save her city from catastrophe, Billi will have to put her heart aside and make sacrifices greater than any of the Templars could have imagined.

Wildefire by Karsten Knight review -Annmarie

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book from my dear friend. I had been waiting to read this book since it was first released.

There was loads going on in the story line for the mythological that was running through the book to the conflict between characters, new friendship and more action then you could throw a stick at.

In a way you could tell a guy wrote the book because there was never a boring page there was always some kind of action going on and that’s one of the main thing I really loved. The mythological side of this book was outstanding I’m a big fan of myths of any sort. While I have read books like Percy Jackson and the Pegasus series this series for more for the teen readings then younger readers.

The conflict between ash and Eve was one of the key points in this story. It was great to see the hate but also deep down I wonder whether they had any choice but to dislike one and other.

There was lots of other great characters in the book and they all fitted really well together they all brought something interesting and new to the mix. Ash was a strong main character that to me was a bit of a tom boy that really helped me like her because I myself am a bit of a tom boy. She was out spoken and was always speaking her mind which normal got her into trouble.

Now the ending was mind blowing I did not see that coming at all and I was shocked and enraged that the author ended the book that way (cliff hanger!!)  But it was a good thing he did because one thing I know is I well be buying book two.

To sum this book up I would say....
A mind blowing mix of none stop action and conflicted and myth.
5 stars.

Currently reading Wildefire by Karsten Knight

Wildefire (Wildefire #1)
Every flame begins with a spark.
Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.

About Author
Karsten Knight has been writing since the age of six, when he completed his first masterpiece: a picture book series about an adventurous worm. In the two decades that have followed, Karsten worked as a proofreader, a bookseller, and a college admissions counselor before finally deciding that his true calling was as a volcano goddess biographer. He resides in Boston, where he lives for fall weather and football, and is on a far-too-successful quest to visit every restaurant in the city.

Pretty Twisted by Gina Blaxill review-annmarie

Pretty Twisted
Two strangers stumble upon one and other on a social net working site both are struggling with their lives.   Things take a turn for the worse when Jonathan X girlfriend goes missing and the finger is pointed at Jonathan so he turns to the only other person he trusts Rosalind but she is hiding things of her own.  Will Jonathan and Rosalind find out what’s going on before it’s too late.

I don’t normal read contemporary suspense but I found the story really easy to get sucked into.

The two main characters Jonathan and Rosalind worked really well together and the book showed both characters points of view.

Jonathan was a truthful character yet he finds it hard to be anybody without his beautiful girlfriends Freya without her his left wondering what to do.

Rosalind is from a Brocken home her dad is hardly around and her sister always doing her own thing. Rosalind best friend is now trying to push herself into the popular crowd and ros is left feeling alone and unwanted.
Together Ros and Jono find a friend in one and other.

All together this story was just brilliant the book was like a big puzzle and the more you read the more pieces of the puzzle fell into place. From the start you end up trying to work things out, who do you trust and where had the girlfriend gone but the author makes shore you continue reading to the very end.

I loved the teen writing style with lots of up to date text chat and smiling faces , I felt that I was with the characters the whole time and at a few points in the book I completely forgot the book was a work of fiction and not real like I felt it was.
Lots of character interaction and drama going on and all together a fantastic book!

I give the book 5 well earned stars
To sum this book up I would say
Up to date and twisted in all the right places so much drama it felt real.
