Book 2 of the series, and I think I might have liked this one even more than the first. You get more of the storyline unfolding and more action taking place, whereas book one felt like it was mostly stuck in one place.

While this book follows two new characters (not the same ones from book one), you’re still actively seeing and following the original characters—just from a different point of view, which I really enjoyed.

It was a quick, easy read but with more story than the first book. There is spice in this one, but I felt like it was a little less than the first, or maybe it just seemed that way because there were more plot elements going on at the same time.

I’d say if you’re looking for a deep, emotional read, this might not be for you. But if you’re after something quick, fun, and enjoyable, this series might be just what you need.

I think I really needed this book after the last book I read tore my soul out. It was so nice to fall into a story that just wrapped me up and felt easy to read—something that hit all the right spots without too much drama or questionable choices.

The storyline in this book is pretty simple and easy to follow. Not a whole lot really happens—so if you’re looking for a deep, impactful plot, this might not be the one for you. But if you want something light and a little fluffy at times, this is definitely more your vibe. Don’t get me wrong, there is stuff happening, but nothing really gets resolved. It felt like some things were opened up and just... left open. But since it’s part of a series, I’m guessing those loose threads will get picked up later.

Honestly, I didn’t read this one for the story. I just needed a break from books that leave me broken-hearted and raging and this one thankfully left me feeling happy.

I debated whether to give it 3 or 4 stars, but I settled on 4. It was super easy to read, didn’t take long to finish, and had a good amount of spice without going over the top. The story kept me interested enough to avoid boredom. Would I read it again? Maybe. And the fact that I feel like picking up the next book makes me believe it was worth the 4 stars.

Shadows So Cruel (Court of Ravens, #2) Shadows So Cruel by Liv Zander review

Shadows So Cruel (Court of Ravens, #2)Shadows So Cruel by Liv Zander
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

🌟🌟 (2 stars)

What can I say... I was hopeful—maybe at the beginning—that I would feel differently about book two than I did about book one. While the first book had me questioning my own mental state, this one… left me feeling cheated by how it all ended.

Like with the first book, there’s so much going on that made me want to scream and punch something—but I can’t deny it’s well written and super easy to get sucked into. Still… there was one shining light in this books, the thing that helped me get through book one and most of book two. And when that little light was taken from me, I raged. I felt empty and upset.

I’m all for character growth, forgiveness, and the idea that two wrongs don’t make a right, but AHHH, I’m so deeply mad about how this one made me feel. By the end, some chapters became almost impossible for me to read without wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall. If I had a paperback copy, I probably would’ve burned it in total rage.

I know not every book is for everyone—we all have different things we love or hate—but I was just so ticked off. If I had even the slightest idea of the ending or what was coming, I honestly don’t think I would’ve picked up these books. My mental health and heart would have been better off.

I cried. I was upset. I was mad. I literally just finished it, and my brain is still all over the place.

Would I read it again? HARD NO.

I’m going to post this review and go find some cute puppy videos to watch… maybe grab a whole tub of ice cream for my poor broken heart and to cool my rage. πŸΆπŸ¦πŸ’”πŸ”₯

Feathers So Vicious (Court of Ravens, #1)Feathers So Vicious by Liv Zander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

🌟🌟🌟🌟 (Hardest stars of my life)
🌢️🌢️🌢️🌢️🌢️ (I don’t even know…)

I am a hot mess of total confusion. Do I love this book? Do I hate it? Most of the time, I was just wishing everyone was dead or punished or both. I honestly have no clue how to feel. It was like being on a roller-coaster where the track ends and you’re just free-falling toward your own doom.

There’s a lot and I mean a lot that I really hated in this book, mostly because of the characters' actions. I won’t spoil anything, but wow... still, I kept reading. Confused, frustrated, horrified yet unable to stop. I feel so messed up. Should I give it 1 star? Or 5? The whole thing had me hooked, and it was... ughhhhh. I don’t know. I’m emotionally wrecked.

Now, the story itself is woven really well. But it is dark. Like, pitch-black-no-light kind of dark. The characters’ choices had me spinning in circles, cursing out loud, and questioning everything. And yet… maybe a dark little part of me was intrigued to see where it all was heading.

Honestly, I don’t think a book has ever messed me up like this before. I feel like I just lived through a traumatic event and crawled out the other side dazed, confused, and somehow still needing more. I can’t give it a 1 or 2 star because I do plan to read the next book… but I also can’t give it a 5 without questioning my own mental health. πŸ˜‚

All I can say is: this book shocked me. It gripped me.
If you love DARK DARK stories this is totally for you.
But if you prefer your books on the lighter side? Don’t even pick this up.

The Robin on the Oak Throne by K.A. Linde review

The Robin on the Oak Throne (Oak & Holly Cycle, #2)The Robin on the Oak Throne by K.A. Linde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 out of 5 stars
I received a teaser of The Robin on the Oak Throne from the NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This is book two in a series, and I haven’t read the first book, so this review is based on the first 8 chapters of the second, from someone who has only just discovered this series.

First off, the book jumps right into it no slow, baby-step build-up, and thankfully no long-winded info dump that would have bored me if I’d been hit with a wall of facts from the previous book. Even without reading The Wren in the Holly Library, the opening eight chapters felt snappy and clear. No confusion, just solid storytelling. The author smoothly eases you in, giving just enough backstory without overwhelming you—which is perfect when you’re coming in fresh. (I’ll definitely be reading this series now—I have to!)

Right away, I felt the sass and witty banter, and it was fantastic! I just wanted more... eight chapters were not enough. I wanted so much more. So yes, book one and book two are now sitting on my shopping list waiting for me to hit “buy.” the moment book 2 is out.

(The Kingdom Below, #1) A Darkness So Sweet by Emma Hamm review

A Darkness So Sweet (The Kingdom Below, #1)A Darkness So Sweet by Emma Hamm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Totally earned 5 stars
🌢🌢🌢 (I was torn between giving it a 3 or a 4 on the spice scale)

I devoured this book like it was my favorite snack. I loved the build-up in this one. There was no rushed sprint to the finish line, no “Hi, what’s your name?” Straight into Spiceville where the plot comes second to the steam. This had a real story, slow progression (not to slow), character development, and growth that kept me hooked.

Don’t get me wrong, the spice was not lacking. Absolutely not. In fact, it had me reaching for ice water and a fan! πŸ”₯

Now, I’m not usually into troll stories or books, but this one had me by the throat in a good way. I’d say this book is perfect for anyone who enjoys equal parts, story, and spice, not just a sprinkle of plot on their steam. πŸ˜‰

For me, this was perfection, and I’d totally read it again!

The Wolf King The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman review

The Wolf KingThe Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Totally earned five stars
🌢️🌢️ 2 on the spice scale

First off, massive bravo! Easy five stars.
I was hooked pretty much from the first chapter. I loved the world-building, and I ate up all the banter like a kid at Christmas. The story was so easy to read, with lots going on, but not to the point where I felt like I needed a notebook and a satnav just to follow it.

I was up until 4 a.m. devouring the book like my life depended on it. By the end, I was a shocked, sweaty mess, desperate for another chapter or even just one more page because I didn’t want it to end. And by the gods, that ending was amazing. It left me with a deep, aching need to read book two.

There is spice in the book, mostly in the second half rather than the first. But I didn’t feel let down not at all. The story and its easy, engaging flow had me as happy as a sunbeam.

BrideBride by Ali Hazelwood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was up all night reading this book I finally went to sleep around 5:30 a.m., set on finishing it.

I was unsure whether to give it 5 stars or 4. I really liked the story—I did! But I sometimes had trouble with the writing style or something about the way it was written. It made me feel a bit off at times, like I was struggling to stay fully immersed. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it—something just felt missing. Still, the story itself was really enjoyable, and overall, it was an easy read.

As for spice: the first half of the book has none. So if you're looking for something fully spicy, this might not be for you. But in the second half, things definitely start to heat up, though it never becomes the focal point of the story.
